4 Kinds of Severe Head Injuries

Whether you suffered a head injury from a slip-and-fall accident, got hurt in a car accident, or bumped your head on a low-hanging wall, a head injury shouldn’t be ignored. Head injuries, even when they seem minor, can lead to life-long medical conditions, which can severely disrupt your way of life. If you suffered a head injury, then you shouldn’t delay seeking medical attention, otherwise, you may suffer from worse injuries.

After an examination, you may find that you’re suffering from a serious head wound. The following are several of the most common head injuries people receive:

1. Concussion

One of the most common head injuries, a concussion is often seen in sports players but can be seen in people who were in serious accidents. This injury occurs from a blow (or several) to the head causing the brain to rock or bounce around in the skull. This can leave victims dizzy and disoriented and may leave victims confused.

2. Intracranial bleeding

A blood clot or internal bleeding around the brain may be the result of a hematoma. There are many kinds of hematomas, typically, ranging from mild to severe. Some hematomas may be located in a single spot or may run the length of the head – but they can be deeply serious.

3. Contusion

While it may sound minor, a contusion is a bruise on the brain. However, the bruise may cause swelling and bleeding. The worst part is that contusions may not be immediately apparent to the victim, only causing symptoms hours after the crash.

4. Skull fracture

While many of the above injuries may not be immediately noticeable, a skull fracture is often apparent. Much like a broken arm or leg, the skull is broken and may need reconstruction. The brain may also, naturally, suffer from contusions and worse as a result of the fracture.

If you find that you’re suffering from a serious head injury, then you may need to know your legal options when making a claim and seeking compensation.
